Manihot esculenta 'Variegata', Cassava

 

Manihot esculenta variegata, Manihot, Variegated Cassava, Tapioca 'Variegata.‘ Phonetics- (MANy-hot, eskew-LEN-ta ). Belongs to family of Euphorbeacae. USA Hardiness Zone- (10a- 11). 

Sun to partial shade.  Average water requirement. Height 4-6 feet. Color charteruse/ yellow. Average water requirement. Shrub, tender perennials. Height 4-6 feet. Ornamental value.

Parts poisonous if ingested. Bloom pale yellow/ cream. Bloom time- late fall early winter. Used for root crop, 6-8 months of frost free weather for root harvest is required. Bitter roots for starch and sweet varieties for vegetables after removing toxics.  Medium maint. No serious disease or insect problem. 



Grown for foliage. Color charteruse/ yellow.


Leave variegation.

Shrub, tender perennials.

Variegation green and yellow.

Propagation from soft wood cutting. Seeds are sterile. 


Roots are either bitter or sweet.
